As a showcase of the former GDR (German Democratic Republic), the Kunsthalle Rostock was planned and built in the 1960s, and remained the only newly constructed museum building in Eastern Germany at the time.

To be able to use the open storage area for hanging and showing objects, additionally to the exhibit spaces, the Kunsthalle was equipped with adaptable hanging kub2 walls. The custom made elements are guided in al ceiling rails and can be repositioned flexibly in front of the existing walls.
