Stadtgalerie Lehen: Landscape Painting. atelier ///
Austria, Salzburg (2025)
The Stadtgalerie Lehen, one of the art venues of the city of Salzburg, is located on the former site of the municipal utilities Stadtwerke. The exhibition space, with an area of approximately 200 square meters and a ceiling height of 7 meters, was designed by the architectural firm Bernd Vlay and opened in 2012. Around six temporary exhibitions are held annually, showcasing contemporary art projects by artists with ties to the city and state of Salzburg.
Since its opening at the Lehen location, the Stadtgalerie has relied on flexible, freestanding walls and wall panels from kub2 for its exhibition design. In the exhibition "Landscape Painting" by atelier ///, the walls themselves became the subject of the exhibition. Among other questions, the artist collective posed the following question at the Stadtgalerie: "Does the wall make the picture a picture, or does the picture make the wall a wall?"
